FAQs
What is MyCycle?
MyCycle is a virtual event brought to you by the British Heart Foundation. While cycling events that allow you to ride in one glorious crowd are a distant dream at the moment, MyCycle means you can still enjoy the rush of getting out on your bike and raising money for life saving research.
How far can I ride and for how long?
You choose the distance level that suits you. We suggest people aim to complete their challenge in 30 days from signing up
How old do I need to be to take part?
Participants need to be at least 18 years old to take part in MyCycle.
Do I have to do this outdoors?
You can cycle outdoors, indoors or a bit of both! Whatever fits best around your schedule and your situation.
How do I log my miles?
Simply sign up for a free Strava account to log your miles on the app. Or if you prefer, you can also manually log your miles through your fundraising page.
What happens once I’ve signed up?
Once you’ve signed up, you’ll be given some top tips from JustGiving on how to make your page the best it can be. It’s then up to you to get out there and start your challenge, share your progress with your friends and get those donations rolling in.
When does the challenge start and finish?
When you sign up, you’ll have 30 days to complete your challenge. The first few days is all about laying the groundwork. Setting up your fundraising page, sharing it with friends, getting those first few donations, and planning your cycling routes. Maybe you’ll keep it simple with laps around the block, maybe you’ll discover places you never knew existed! Once you’ve got your prep down, you’ve got the rest of your 30 days to complete your challenge and smash that fundraising target. Remember, don’t be modest, keep telling the world about your ever increasing mileage to really maximise those donations.
Can I take part in a team?
Yes of course – this event is for anyone who enjoys cycling, you can take part solo or with friends and family. Once you’ve completed your registration, you can create or join a team. When you are setting up a team, you’ll need to choose a team name and fundraising total. Then get your friends and family to register too, and join the team using the team name you created. This will mean all your fundraising pages are pulled together on the fundraising leaderboard. Note: please follow the most up to date government advice regarding exercise and social distancing.
What do I receive for taking part?
When you complete your chosen challenge, you’ll receive a virtual medal from the British Heart Foundation to say thank you for taking part. If you’ve raised £150 or more, we’ll send you a medal through the post for added kudos with friends and family.
Can I use a fitness app?
You can link your Strava account to your fundraising page by setting up an account.
Do I pay to take part?
No this is a free event to take part in.
How do I fundraise?
We've got plenty of new fundraising resources and materials that we hope will help you with your fundraising.
Do I need to raise a minimum amount?
As a charity, we need your support more than ever to continue providing vital services to people with heart and circulatory diseases. Whilst every pound you raise goes towards supporting the charity, we’re asking our cyclists to try to raise a minimum of £150 – this way you’re supporting the charity, but also you’ll receive a well deserved medal through the post for completing your challenge.
I want to fundraise offline?
If you’d prefer to fundraise offline, that’s great too. Just give us a ring and you can pay in your sponsorship money over the phone using your debit or credit card by calling 0300 330 3322. We're here to help, Monday - Friday, 09:00 - 17:00.
I’ve hit £150 and completed my challenge – how do I claim my medal?
When you complete your challenge and you’ve raised £150 or more each, we’ll send your medal through the post to you. Please note – we will send the medal to the address linked to your JustGiving account so please make sure to add or amend if it has changed.
